Holidays in the Berkshires, Part II from Abbott’s Limo

As November draws to a close and Abbott’s Limousine Service cheers on the gift-giving season you will find plenty of opportunities to enjoy The Berkshires while shopping for all of your family and friends.

It doesn’t take long for things to get rolling in December as the Town of Stockbridge presents the 22nd Annual Stockbridge Main Street at Christmas December 3rd and 4th. The weekend celebration centers around the recreation of the street scene that inspired Norman Rockwell’s painting of downtown Stockbridge. The iconic painting took 11 years to complete. There will be an Art & Craft Market on Saturday in the Town Offices Building (formerly the Stockbridge Plain School), a Holiday House Tour, Children’s Holiday Story Time at the Library, caroling, and a Holiday Concert at the 1st Congregational Church.

On Sunday in Stochbridge, Main Street will be closed to through traffic to make way for the recreation of Rockwell’s scene and the arrival of Santa’s sleigh later in the afternoon.

Great Barrington’s Holiday Stroll the following Saturday, December 10th, will feature another visit from Santa, a performance by the Berkshire Children’s Chorus, kid-friendly activities like face painting, and a tree lighting followed by fireworks to celebrate the close of the town’s 250th Anniversary celebrations.  Great Barrington’s impressive assortment of galleries and retail businesses and restaurants remain open with extended hours to welcome holiday shoppers.

The 1st Annual Lenox Caroling Festival will also be taking place all day Saturday, December 10th throughout the Village.

On the cultural and entertainment side of things there is also a long list of first-class events.  The Albany Berkshire Ballet will perform The Nutcracker at the Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield December 12th & 13thBerkshire Theatre Festival will stage performances of A Christmas Carol from December 12th through December 30th.

Eileen Ivers will perform An Nollaig: An Irish Christmas at the Colonial Theatre on December 19th.   There will be performances of Matt Cusson and Friends: Home For Christmas at Barrington Stage Company, in Pittsfield, on December 19th and 20th, and the Berkshire Bach Society will perform a series of concerts featuring the Christmas Oratorio and the Brandenberg Concerti at locations in Pittsfield and Great Barrington from December 19th through January 1st.

The complete list of events is much longer than space permits in this blog, but the overriding message is that The Berkshires is a wonderful place to be to experience, and indulge in, the spirit of the holidays in a winter-wonderland setting.

As always Abbott’s Livery and Limousine Service stands at the ready to provide the highest standards of comfort and reliability when you want to visit, and travel around, The Berkshires.  We look forward to greeting you and to helping make your visit truly memorable.
